What’s a bad power steering pump sound like? If it takes an abnormal amount of steering wheel movement to turn the wheels then chances are it is your power steering pump. It could also indicate a bad power steering gear box, bad ball joints and loose boots on the rack and pinion.
- The pump may become noisy and fluid may be leaking
- The pulley can freeze up if really neglected
- Fluid may smell or appear burned
- check your pressure hose condition for cracks and leaks
